How often should I wash my hair?

Some people say they wash their hair once a week, others every day and others in between. How often should you really be washing your hair in order to have the healthiest hair possible? Well that depends on your hair.

Thick, straight hair: Every 3-4 days

Fine, thin hair: Every 1-2 days

Fine, thick hair: Every 1-3 days

Thick, curly hair: Every 2-4 days

Thin, curly hair: Every 2-3 days

Oily hair: Every other day

Dandruff: Every 2-3 days

Curly hair tends to be more dry and can handle the natural oils produced by the scalp.

Fine hair tends to hold moisture pretty well and sometimes becomes oily if not washed for a few days.

If you have oily hair, shampooing too often and not using conditioner are two common mistakes. When you stop using conditioner, your body makes up for it by producing more oil.

If you have dandruff, wash your hair every 2-3 days using a shampoo with pyrithione zinc and don't forget the conditioner!

How often you should wash your hair depends on a lot of variables. Still not sure how often you should suds up? Ask your hairdresser to help you with a personalized plan.
