Why PH matters with Curly Hair

If you have been to see me in the salon, then I've probably talked to you about PH levels. Most likely when talking about the shampoo that you choose to use. Today I'd like to talk about why PH matters with curls.

Healthy curly hair should maintain a PH of between 4.5 and 5.5 which makes it slightly acidic. This will help keep the cuticle closed which helps hold in water.......which is the key to plump, defined, frizz free curls.

If the PH level gets too alkaline, the cuticle of your hair is opened, which will not allow your hair to retain water. This results in frizz, poor structure, weak hair strands and damage to your hair.

So what can you do? Use hair products that have a PH lower than 7 exclusively. If your hair is curly, you should also be avoiding silicones.

Innersense Organic Beauty is the haircare line that I carry in the salon. The PH levels of all the products are perfect for curly hair and for keeping everything slightly acidic where it belongs. You can email me for an order or shop for yourself HERE.
